Originally a tradition from Japan, Hina Matsuri ("Festival of Dolls") on March 3rd continues to be celebrated in Hawaii to wish young girls good health and happiness.
Here in Hawaii, families display traditional Japanese dolls, including their collection of kokeshi (wooden) dolls, partake of mochi and other traditional foods, and shower girls with gifts.
